Wheels

Postby Moe » Mon Jun 18, 2007 7:03 pm

Hey Lads I know this has been covered before, but can anyone advise on offsets?
I know 50mm is standard, and I'd be prepared to go to 46 on the front, but as far as I know the rims I fancy only come in 35 & 38.. Fine on the back, but would it upset the steering geometry too much? Stickin with 17s BTW, 8" wide... Cheers :?

If you are getting 17*8 you will need the 38 offset on the front and that would be giving a fairly tight fit. The back will be grand

Why do you say it will be a tight fit? Doesn't a 8x17 wheel with a 38mm offset give almost the same clearance on the inside as a 7x17 with 50 offset?
Most of the extra inch goes to the outside I'd have thought... :?

The extra inch is spread on both sides be half inch. I have 18*8 with a 41 offset on the front and I know its an 18" but the width with my offset is just clearing the arch so with another 3mm less offset it will be closer to the arch. You will prob be ok but will have to be careful if you lower it.
Prob the most basic way to see is put a tape against your rim and measure around 24mm and see where it lines up with the arch. That 24mm is the extra 12mm width of an 8" rim and the 12mm less offset compared to standard rim
