Broken again

Postby Noel » Mon Nov 22, 2010 10:35 pm

Recovered by tow truck this cold evening, spent a small fortune last year getting it back on the road, didn't cut corners and didn't rush the job... but now it's fecked again! :x

Have it 5 years now but the bad memories are starting to dominate the happy ones

Fecking sick of it

Started as a very faint tapping/ ticking sound a few months back, took it to two mechanics and both said they could hear it but it wouldn't be easy to pin point and might never get any worse so probably not the expense of tearing it apart ... Driving to cork this evening a bad vibrating suddenly started so turned back but it was obvious it was sick and then conked ... :(

s@3! buzz Noel and just before santy is due as well, sounds like it might be cheaper in the long run to pick up a pony from a breakers, throw that in and stick the car up on dungdeal - no point spending big money rebuilding the engine in a car you don't like anymore

When you start hating a car its the best option, believe me...... i'm in a dirty SLOW diesel and i haven't looked back :D

ive heard of the bucket/shims wearing causing a tapping noise in the head.. it would also cause it to run on three or cut out.. might be a option,

Fairly close to what you said but turns out that it has made bits out of a bucket and alot of wear to the inlet cam ... he thinks theres probably more damage done farther down and changing the engine is the only option at this stage...

Don't know what to do now ... what's a used engine go for + labour ... is it worth fixing or just cut my losses :?

that a tough decision noel and a serious bit of hard luck
i have seen manual engines go for around 1000 euro not too sure about auto ones i think maybe try somewhere like elite autos in Galway or IVI in dublin
Best of luck with it
