Misfire!!!

Postby Tezzyciara » Thu Mar 17, 2016 8:42 am

Hi...my altezza is misfiring when idleing and there is a strong vibration coming out the engine the car is perfect when driving an pulling as normal...I've changed plugs and coils but it's still happening but I've noticed that there is oil entering one spark plug does anyone know what it could be? Before I start going down the road of doing a compression test...thanks

When you say about the oil. Is it down the hole where you access the spark plug or is it actually on the electrode of the spark plug after you remove it?

If its the former, then its likely that it is just the cam cover gasket is leaking a bit of oil and can be resealed by removing the cam cover and either fitting a new gasket and/or applying some instant gasket around it before refitting. Remember that there is specific torque for the bolts and also a tightening order.

If its the latter then it might be a bit more serious as oil is somehow getting back and up into the chamber where the spark is happening. Check that the spark plug was tightened down properly (or it still could be getting oil through from the top and still be the gasket) but if that 's ok it could be the oil rings on pistons etc.

So I've looked into it further I've changed coils plugs and airflow and still no joy so I got a compression test done on the car 3 cylinders were reading 180 psi and the 4th was only reading 52 psi so it could be a piston ring or a valve but would I be better off stepping to engine to see and get either of these replaced or whatever or get a whole new engine now there is 330kms on the clock
