High Emissions (NCT)

Postby Duffer » Wed Apr 16, 2008 1:48 pm

My Altezza went through the Nct passed everthin but emissions, @ idle the emissions were off the wall high and @ high idle they got better. Has anyone had this problem? Even when me car is @ idle it idles very low on the rev counter in and around 500 - 700 Rpm I'd say. The NCT lad said it might be suckin in air from another source, like a pipe to the inlet manifold.

sounds like your MAF sensor is dodgy if it is it'll be confused as to how much air to pull in and sometimes be struglling to breath.. i brought mine to toyota and they found the prob.. where you based??

Your best off leaving it into a garage, it could be a number of things, faulty sensor, bad fuel, dodgy cat. Just show them the NCT printout and they should be able to narrow down the cause of the problem with that

The lad in the NCT Centre said it was goin up and down on idle (The emissions) but @ high idle it would be grand, The first thing me mate taught it might have been was the cat, it may have been knocked out in Japan by some mechanic as its common i heard. Its just trying to narrow it down as there are so many things it may or may not be :? :?

replacement cat is about 700-800 euro from toyota! you would be better off going for a sports cat, about 440 from Couture auto

Whats the idle rev range supposed to be?
real strong smell of petrol from mine lately on start up and until it warms, i was putting it down to de-cat and the stupidly noisy Trust box i have on back (5zigen broke up inside some how  ) cleaned the sensor a while ago and it improved things, but would like to improve the issue before i have an NCT due

@Duffer: what fuel are u using in it? may be some of the problem, i.e tesco petrol

You can pick up a universal weld-in cat for a couple of hundred quid but again you get it welded and put back together it'd be up on CDA prices for a sports one, also i dont know how the car would run with them :?: :?:

As far as i know mate all the Maxols stock it now, it has replaced standard petrol across all the maxol garages. Its well worth it doh for the sake of a few cents.

Yeah, Maynooth was the cheapest E5 I've found around the greater Dublin area. Having a Tesco's petrol station nearby works wonders. It was 1.18 there as recently as last weekend.
