Mods for Police use

Postby nit0065 » Thu Feb 26, 2015 11:50 pm

Hi all,

Have a Beams 2000 auto. It is a private vehicle but is regularly used in police work (kitted with mini-bar light and siren), most often for rapid response and have a few good car chases every week. The problem is that I am in Zimbabwe where roads leave a lot to be desired. As a result, it takes quite a pounding with pot holes, and it is a tad embarrassing having to slow right down for speed humps in the middle of a car chase!

At the moment I'm at a point where most of the suspension system needs to be replaced, so I'm looking for ideas on how to achieve maximum stability and handling, while also being able to handle extremely bad roads at times. Being able to glide over speed humps without scraping anything (with 3 passengers) would be a huge plus. I definitely wouldn't want it any lower than it already is.

Where do I start? I am very far from being an expert and am pretty clueless on mechanical issues, so please use small words :D Also, the budget is unfortunately quite limited, but if I know what to aim for, it would be a big help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

On an Altezza forum you're telling me not to drive an Altezza? That's not really an option, but thanks anyway.

I am very happy with the vehicle and it is very effective on most roads. I'm just looking for ways to improve it for the not-so-good roads (that won't cost me as much as the car did). If there aren't any options, then I'll just make do until I can afford proper rally-type modifications. Altezzas have been used as rally cars (although not commonly) so I wouldn't expect it to be impossible just to modify the suspension to take more of a bashing?
