This seems to be going way out of hand. I could hear the sound intermittently until Friday when jacked the car to check what was wrong. I finally figured out that there was bit of play on the left front wheel signaling a worn out lower ball joint. I haven't yet replaced the ball joint but from that time the knocking sound is getting worse whenever I drive on bumps. My question is did l further damaged the ball joint when l jacked the car cause its now worse off than it was before. Also I need to know if its advisable to have the ball joint reconditioned since it is a genuine one (from factory).
Wouldn't of thought you would make it worse, unless you were using a bar to wiggle it but would have had to put some effort in to damage it more, best off to buy a pair of brand new genuine ones, as the other side will most likely follow if not now but in few months, got part number if you need it

probably as well while you need to take track rod end off is change them 45460-59035 rh 45470-59035 lh price was around £30 from Toyota
Very strange that just wobbling the wheel would cause it to become worse only thing is if it gets slightly better then it's because of the suspension settling after jacking it up, did you take wheel off?
Guess what Mike, just found out the right side caliper had the upper bolt missing and was attached with the lower one only. I have since replaced it and the heavy knocking sound is gone, tho I still need to change the ball joints some time since they not much of a prob currently.
