Insurance and new law about imported cars..

Postby banan1984 » Fri May 03, 2013 4:39 pm

Lads and ladies what the hell is going on? My insurance is due reneval (123.ie-->RSA) and I have recieved proposal of nearly 3300 euro !!! That include 2 years NCB where last year I have paid 904 euro. I talked to chilledchef and he's due to reneval as well, where he's got 4 years NCB and 123.ie (RSA) offered 2200 euro. WTF? It because of some new law about jap imports? Does any of You experience same issue?

123 wanted €1200 this year for mine up €400 from last year, I'm 28 have 8 nears no claims and 10 years full licence, pretty much told them to fook off, they said that the altezza is barely category 50 car, the top category in with evos, imprezas, skylines which doesn't make sense.

I left and went to Aviva ended up paying 900 with them, the are all the same bunch of scammers

Dont know if these will be any different guys but im with Britton Insurance and iv been with them from get go and i was 19 with 1 years no claims and full license for only a few months when i got insured on an altezza for 2000 euro.expensive ya, but no where else AT ALL would insure me, or even quote me. My insurance is up in 2 months and il see what it is then but they seem to take more of a risk with insurance so id advise everyone to call them anyway and see what they say! If this helps anyway id love to hear it :)

Here is their site link! Hope im not breaking any site rules by posting this :S

123 always increase your policy on the second year, aviva were the best last year for me, but think you need 5 year ncb for altezzas with them

Mine will also be going in the shed if I can't get a decent renewal quote.

The price we pay for insurance is already criminal.

Use a broker that specialises in imports like Adrian flux.

@banan1984

What exactly do you mean by excess?

Also iv kind of red up about this but im a bit hazy on the issue but if no one can get insured ( for a fair price anyway) can we not all use that extension policy ( i think thats what its called). You know where you can insure one car and drive another car as long as its not in your name and its nct'd and taxed. I wanted to go this route before i got a toyota levin at age 18 when i only had 1 years no claims cause i was full sure i wouldnt get insured (but i did with britton insurance) but i rang liberty insurance and asked them straight up if im insured on my Mitsubishi colt ( i dont actually have one :P, just wanted to see) can i drive ANY other car as long as its nct'd and taxed. They told me yes. I then asked them are you sure and what happens if i am pulled by a cop and they try to seize the car from ( i asked this because i seen a guy's car get seized a few days earlier at a cruise as he was doing the same thing) and they told me to get the guards to phone them directly if they have a problem with your insurance and they ASSURED me i was aloud drive any car as long as its not in my name and its nct'd and taxed.

Hope this helps people. Also try ringing and asking the same thing yerselves incase its changed but i doubt it has!

Excess is the amount you pay when making a claim, so if your excess is 3 grand and you cause 1500 euro of damage the insurance company won't have to give you anything

Most policies have 250-600 excess

I know everyone is liable to crash but i drive very slow and easy almost all the time :S so iv never worried to much about crashing :P but i will have to check that out and get back to ye!

@ Tulegit2quitzz; that's an odd way to look at things. They are called accidents!!!! Only way to make sure you don't have one is don't drive the car and lock it up. You can do damage at 10kph and 120kph. Only takes something to run out in front of you or a wheel to pop god forbid....
