You could still run a 5w-30 in a hot climate but you 'd want one with a HTHS around 3.5 like Shell Helix Ultra, Mobil1 ESP, Redline, MOTUL 8100 X-clean or anything meeting A3/B3 or C3 specs.
Which 5w-40 are you using our of interest?
