diff

Postby m_0_m_0 » Sat Dec 11, 2010 10:47 pm

Hi People,

my tezz been written off, went off on some black ice, i dunno iof this is the right section to post but al try my luck. drives rear wheel has taken a knock and now looks like theres heaps of camber on it, suspension damage i kno but cant tell how bad until its on a ramp. my question to u all, if the diff was damaged what would i notice as it still drives and cant hear any grinding noises etc which am thinkin is a good sign, also would an is 200 diff fit or are tezza diffs different?? any input welcom

sounds like the suspension arms have taken the brunt of the hit so there probably bent and you may of damaged the drive shaft but at a guess I would of thought the diff would be ok if it still drives :?:

kool, so if i have to buy a diff it will need to be for a tezza. i dnt think ive damaged the diff as it wasnt a hard impact but who knows until i can get it on a ramp to check the extent. the garage report says rear hub and control arms, am thinking driveshaft wishbones but will look into it once weather gets better. just want it fix and back on the road missin it already :(

Both the Altezza and Lexus sport use a torsion differential, 2 way diff is not safe for road use

As far as I can remember the lexus diff has less bolts than the Altezza so not a straight swap...

I'd have thought it's got the standard torsend item fitted. If it was a 2-way you'd hear a knocking noise when turning out of junctions as the rear wheel on the inside of the turn tries to turn more than is required. Not much fun for road use - more of a drifters diff.
