spark plug gap

Postby moomoo » Wed Apr 01, 2009 11:57 am

I changed the sparkplugs at the weekend and noticed that the HKS ones I took out had a much smaller gap than the Iridium (which are set correctly). Anyone know the story is with this, does the gap make much of a difference???

Car is running grand now and idles 200rpm less than before but the car was running grand with the old ones too :? :?

As far as know the gap for the 3S-GE should be 0.8mm, I could be wrong on that.

If the gap is too narrow the spark might be too weak or small to ignite the fuel, if the gap is too wide the plug may fail to fire.

It doesn't sound like you're having any of these problems.

Factory gap is 1.1mm for our cars.

Factory Denso plugs are:
PK20R-11

NGK Iridium plugs are:
BKR6EIX-11

Denso Iridium plugs are:
IK20

What plugs did you put in and what did you take out?

Is the normal 3S-GE 0.8mm and the BEAMS 1.1mm?

No, 1.1mm for the 3SGE.

Both the 1GFE and the 3SGE have Beams cylinder heads btw

I took out HKS M40i and put in the denso iridium and the gap is at 1.1mm on the denso's. the HKS ones (.6) were in it while I got it, and the only difference is it idles a little lower

Well the ones you have in it know are the right ones for it so it'll be the finest!

Anyone know what Denso Iridium VK20s are?

VK20 was superceeded by IK20s.

So VK20 = IK20 (1.1mm)

Not on a stock engine.

I'm running IK22s on my car.

IK22s are just one heat range colder, so ok for highly tuned NA engines or boost applications
