does the oil pressure sensor only feed to the cluster?

Postby dogger » Mon Aug 31, 2015 8:00 pm

As per the title really.
I'm running a beams in my ae86 and wanted to fit an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. So does the stock oil pressure sensor only send a signal to the instrument cluster to put the light on- or does the ecu need to see the signal as well??
I'm just thinking if it doesn't then I can cut the wire and run it straight to my gauge as I am still running the ae86 cluster.
Cheers

I think it also sends a signal to the ecu. I just fitted an adaptor and run a gauge and the stock one

Cheers.
an adaptor as in a second oil pressure transmitter?
does it matter what kind you use to feed a signal to the gauge?
i see some come as kits, but i already have the gauge but no sender

Hi
I used an adaptor to split the oil feed - attaching the original sender unit for the stock gauge and then another to the new gauge.
If you already have a gauge and it's an electrical one, you'll need the same sender for it. If you use a random sender then you might get odd readings, if any at all. I just used a mechanical gauge which doesn't need a sender unit.
