Good Panel Filter?

Postby black007 » Wed Mar 11, 2015 1:15 am

Hello!

I am trying to get some maintenance items for my Altezza before it lands. I did a quick search and nothing on this turned up. Is the Blitz dry filter or the HKS oil filter preferred by anyone around here? I see many of you guys seem to like the OEM air box so I figure a good panel filter upgrade is a good idea. Also is there any brands other than HKS or Blitz you recommend??

Thanks everyone!

I went from blueprint oe panel filter to a hks one and noticed no difference. It was €45 delivered so wasn't a rip off at least! And use Toyota oil filter, jdm branded ones are just a waste of money

Thank you very much Starlet! It's actually cheapest to get the JDM panel filters vs. the toyota ones, as I cant get the Toyota one at the dealer. Also I hear you on the filter. I already have an AMSOIL filter, and oil, trans and diff oil.

What is the part number of the toyota oil filter you use please? Ive got one to replace the one that was on it but was listed for a different 3SGE and just wanted to check the one that you guys use for the Altezza RS200 :)

From my understanding tom, alot of OEM Toyota filters are the same. I used a 90915-10003 equivalent. Actually the same filter I used on my 1ZZ-FE Corolla

K&N do a panel filter that fits the standard air box. Part number is 33-2170. Personally, I wouldn't touch a HKS air filter.

Why would you steer clear of the HKS? Because oiled foam and a MAF sensor?

Hks isn't oiled! The k&n is that's why I didn't buy one. Although I'm sure the amount of oil it requires won't effect the maf

That's interesting as I think the smaller one is the same as the pattern part my local motor factor supplied but I bought a gen Toyota one to match the one on the car (which I think matches what my motor factor lists for Celica or MR2) and that is a bit longer and has number 90915-YZZJ2 rather than with 1 on the end!

Interesting mate, thanks. Presume it wouldn't do any harm on the 3S-GE though? Or would it? . . . . . . . .

Bigger filters have their benefits. Essentially no downside as long as it fits.

Because if it's the same green foam as in their mushroom filters, it will be utterly useless at filtering.
