All stacky is doing with his uneducated use of 10w-40 semi syn is creating extra drag on the engine, reducing power & efficiency. The VVT doesn't work as well either (he'll run into problems with this later).
If you're serious about track days then look at using a synthetic 0w-40 or 5w-40 for real protection or splash out on a 5w-30 or 10w-30 designed for racing like Redline or Motul 300V.
