tuning a auto beams 3SGE

Postby HKS200 » Sun Sep 30, 2012 3:10 pm

hi everyone, I reside in Australia where altezza rs200z are very rare. I'm looking to purchase a auto altezza that has had a manual conversion performed on the vehicle. I understand from various sources that the auto 3SGE motor and manual 3SGE motor are different in term of titanium valves. Are the cams different and is it worth swapping out the auto motor for a manual one? I have a spare complete manual altezza left over from my abandoned project which I could use.

basically I'm looking to build a quick track/street car in NA at the moment and want to go the best possible direction with the motor and tuning. Car already has a power FC.

thanks everyone in advance

Compression is less on the auto at 11:1
Cam profiles are less aggressive as is the VVTi.
Then of course there is the bigger, titanium valves.

so it's worth swapping out the motor for a manual one then?

If you got one lying around, yes.

If I was you and just had a spare manual 3sge lying around and wanted a quick N/A car then I would clean up and tune up that (maybe a de-coke, set of shells and head skim etc) properly sized full exhaust system and a panel filter or if money allows itb's and then a remap. Don't expect huge power increases but should be a good track car.
