ITBS!

Postby Tosh21 » Thu Apr 09, 2015 7:53 pm

So I have decided not to go down the itb route as boosting and itbs together will need a motec and I cant really justify 2k on an ecu right now.

These came of a corolla a111 and are the right size. They were all balanced up so shouldn't need to much tinkering to run as long as your adapter plate is properly made.
I found an adapter plate here http://www.xcessivemanufacturing.com/ON ... =4&pid=306 They are in america so it comes to about £200 plus shipping which isn't that bad.

If you don't trust them though (the site does look a bit weird tbh) I CAN fabricate an adapter plate but I will need the rubber piece which sits under the inlet manifold to copy, I can't take mine off to copy as I need the car driving. It will take a few weeks to make and will need a deposit to get material in for it.

Throttle bodies on their own £100 + p&p
Throttle bodies with plate £300 The adapter plate will be machined to make sure they are all exactly the same height.

45mm I believe. I cant get them off to measure it properly.

Yea it would be awesome to run them, seen a few youtube vids and they make a 3sge sound amazing! Will probably throw some on at some point along with the boost but definitely not for a while

Would they make much difference to a turbo car ? I know the rb26 uses itbs and boost

They do.
Throttle response is better, ask your tuner for the best answer. I remember with mine he liked how the cylinders were pretty much equal compared to a normal inlet manifold.

P.S. 45mm are Silvertop throttle bodies which are better for turbo applications. For NA you want the 48mm Blacktop ITBs.

Why does having a smaller diameter make it better for turbo? I didn't even realise there was a difference tbh I just got em diff an ae111 which a guy was breaking in Ireland. I'll take em to work and give em a measure to be sure.

They do help on a turbo but the benefit isn't as big as on n/a. Still, would be nice to have awesome response and I LOVE the noise of itbs. Not sure how much you'd head it inside a plenum though

43mm is silver top and 45mm is black top which are ok for a std motor in na ,im using 52mm quads on my race car engine makes 345hp at 9200rpm

All I have is JUST the throttle bodies. I have the throttle spindle (the bit your cable goes into) but that's it. Would need the bar that goes from the spindle to the throttle itself to open the butterfly but I doubt they are expensive. Could even get any bar and cut it and weld it back together the right length

I'd say fit them, you want to go for a standalone ECU with any forced induction build.
If you are good at fabrication then it would be easy to convert a plenum from the SR20 for your use ;)

Never thought about using an sr20 plenum..good plan! I will probably end up keeping them and using them at some point anyway, thought these would have gone in a flash
