Dash stops working and Limp mode ?

Postby coakley » Fri Nov 04, 2011 2:58 pm

Car was parked up for a while so gave her a full service, thermostat plugs etc and cleaned out the maf. This cleared up a rough idle problem but there is a different problem with it.

When your driving it the dash instruments stop working out of nowhere,
-rev
-speedo
-oil pressure
-battery
-temp

When this happens the car has no power and if you go above 40/50 mph the engine check light comes on and the trc light starts flashing. If you turn off the car the trc flashing and engine light go away but the car still has no power. If the car is parked up then for the night or an hour or two everything is ok again, but could start again one minute or twenty into a journey.

Was told to try a new battery so tried and still the same. Was told the yellow fuse in the fuse box to be taken out for a few minutes and that didnt work. Tried resetting the ecu and again no joy.

Anybody able to help its a right pain in the gooch.

Cheers

I had the same before and it turned out to be a dodgy windscreen replacement was letting water in at the N/S A pillar. The water made it's way, as it does, into the passenger footwell fuse box.

Took it out and cleaned the the corroded contacts, put it all back together and the problem was gone

If you had the windscreen replaced worth a check.

Hope that helps.
