have a horrible knocking noise coming from the car just when i start it. only when i turn left though car can be cold or up to temperature. noise is coming from the engine bay somewhere. funny thing is it goes away after few minutes as if it needs the oil to circulate or something. when the car runs for a few minutes it goes away. its a very horrible/worrying noise. please help

Power Steering Pump? It sounds like there's air getting in somewhere when you turn the engine off and then the oil has to be recirculated when you start up. . . . . . . . .Any oil leaks anywhere or is there a drop in oil in the power steering reservoir??

Have someone move the steering wheel as you lokk at the engine, at least then you should be able to narrow it down to a position in the engine compartment. . . . . . could be the steering rack either

but why does the noise go away then? Thats what i dont get. Surely if there was a problem there it would stay there.and what would i be looking for in the engine bay?

You'd be more listening than looking. Try to pinpoint the area where the noise is coming from and it would help to narrow it down a bit

When my ball joint were worn I could only hear the noise at slow speeds. They're pretty hard to check on the car. You put the car on a hoist & lever them with a bit pry bar to check for play but even then unless they're really stuffed they can be quiet hard to diagnose. If you've done over 100000 km then I'd say they're due to be replaced.

i have noticed a squeky noise now when going over ramps. its definately coming from the left wheel area. happens all the time now. the knocking noise is still there when turning left as usual. anyone know what it can be? sounds like suspension related.

might be a silly question but is the knocking noise a metal banging kinda noise or more like a rotational knocking, like something spinning wrong?

it only happens when i turn the wheel or when i go over ramps of bumps. and the knocking noise happens when i turn left
