temperature gauge

Postby jarocki » Fri Jan 08, 2010 10:09 pm

What would be the reason that my car takes forever to heat up. and in the cold weather when im driving on the motorway it only goes up about a quater of the gauge? Many thanks? Is it something to do with the thermostat?

yep sounds like the thermo stat is on its way out, one sure way of telling is leave the car idle till its up to full temp, then bring it for a drive with your heaters on full, the temp should not drop, if it does its on its way out, hope this helps :)

yea you could take it out in about ten mins. just follow the water hose on passenger side of rad back to engine block. its in the housing attached to the bock. in front of the exhaust.

at has Sounds like the stat has failed, theres a rubber seal in it that gives way when it starts to over heat so its effectively in a permanently open position, thats why it takes forever to heat up, water is flowing through the block constantly instead of only when the temp hits the set point of the stat to open it

Yeah i took mine out in less than 10mins, took another 20 to get the new one back in, and a lot of cursing
