It hardly anything to do with the Flywheel or a sensor around it...

I've been thinking about this and if the clutch is slipping all that would happen is the car will lose drive as the rev's go up so surely the engine would rev past 4000rpm if that's the case.

does anybody know what the effects of a cracked flywheel would be as this as this is a major part of keeping the momentum of the engine turning
so if there was a problem with the flywheel it may not show when the cars not in gear as there is no load on the transmission ??

Sounds like the clutch. Revs were rising but the speed wasn't.
Have you got a new flywheel to go with your clutch kit??

Revving freely but not increasing speed, looks like the clutch slipping to me!

Easy test, find a steep hill to do a hill start OR if no hills then park on the side of the road, when its safe to do so, clutch in, 1st gear, 5000rpm, the let off the clutch and go as hard as u can up to 3rd gear and drive normally then, car should STINK of buring clutch by then if its slipping.

The factory duel mass flywheels are a one time only use item. You can't skim/machine them like you can a solid one.
What clutch kit did you order? You can get them to suit the OE duel mass or aftermarket solid flywheels. Either way you're going to need a new flywheel.

The best value kit would probably be this one from Exedy http://www.exedy.com.au/SpecSheet.aspx? ... owId=64552 as it comes with a flywheel.

your best of switching to a single mass flywheel kit while your at it too, i did it with my legacy since it had a knackered dual mass flywheel too, drives a lot better
