Noise from the drive shaft I think!!!!

Postby Evelyn » Tue Feb 03, 2009 10:23 am

I think this might be linked to my power problem….
Think I have more problems now!! Its beginning to sound like a helicopter on the inside. I did my headlight at the wkend & taught it was the wing liner hitting on the wheel or the bottom cover hitting off the ground.
Its only in if from cold, I heard it last night pulling out of my drive, hoped out straight away looked under the bonnet, looked at the exhaust couldn’t see anything.
Got back into the car while it was station, & I could hear it, it seem to be under the handbrake area, think it might be the centre shaft, anyone else have this problem????
Hopefully getting it checked out later…

There is a prop shaft bearing underneath the handbrake, just a suggestion but should only make noise when your moving

I cant really hear much when driving but thats because of the exhaust. There is a louder noise, I taught it was the exhaust but I fairly centain its coming from the shaft. Its not like a high pitch bearing noise more like a rumble. Hopefully will know later, mates up to his eyes & theres a van stuck on the lift so it might be tommorow...

not your drive shaft anyway or the carrier bearing. that wouldn't be turning when he car is stopped, possibly release bearing or clutch pressure plate.
I BEG TO DIFF-ER!!

It'll be a noisy release bearing or possibly spigot bearing.
Pretty common thing in RWD manual vehicles & Altezzas according to this post http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezza ... topic=7664
