Breaking Grinding prob, bent wheel hub? HELP?

Postby DeckieBoy » Fri Mar 28, 2014 4:10 pm

Ok so everytime i break theres a grinding noise coming from front left wheel and steering wheel wobbles, the noise only happens in a certain section as the wheel turns, its like metal on metal, its not the wheel baring i replaced that, its not the tracking got that done, pads are new, its not a worped disk i swapped them over and it still stayed with the left side. I got some bolts and bolted on the disk leaving the wheel off and gave it a few turns, you can see a wobble, tried the same with the other side and barely any wobble , done this with both disks either side and looks like its just the passengers side with the big wobble. Anyone ever have this prob? can get a 2nd hand hub for 30 but just want ye're advice before i do as i was 95% sure it was worped disk till i swapped over. Thanks

Jack it up with the wheel on and give it a shake at 12 and 6 and 3 and 9 o'clock. First thing that spring to my mind is a ball joint. Unless you hit something It's unlikely for the hub to bend

would be very surprised if the hub has bent, could be a dodgy wheel bearing, who put it in?
if that isn't put it correctly it could cause a wobble, would think that is more likely than bent hub

Hubs don't just bend lad but if you hit a big pothole or kerb they bend like a japanese gymnast

could be a warped disc or a sticky caliper or both
Sounds like a ball joint to me but can'tunder stand why your getting a grinding noise
So check the disc and caliper
just incase u don't know to check the caliper pop off the break bottle top
Loosen off the caliper and take out the pads press the break slowly so the piston comes fully out then push it back in fully should move fairly free with your hand but some times you need a g clamp but if its hard with the g clamp piston is f*** and warped your disc
Do De Donut :P!!!!!

No play in any of the ball joints, disk isn't worped as I checked on opposid side, a garage pressed out and in the wheel baring, but they had to cut something off the hub with oxisettling and then cooled it with water so my guess is that's how it got worped? When I spin the disk freely with pads on it's pushing them with the worp causing them to force agents the caliper so I recon that's where the grinding is coming from
