Coil Packs (COPs)

Postby Protok » Mon Apr 01, 2013 2:58 pm

So something in the air has prompted both my engines to destroy a COP each. Rest are on their way out seeing as they have the "orange ring of death"

One set of coils are 90919-02227
whilst the set on the other engine are 90919-02236

So stands to reason that both will work.
I tried doing as search online for them and haven't really turned up any other information other than the fact that new they are rather expensive and I'd like to dodge the £600 bullet right about now.

So does anyone know of any aftermarket alternatives?
I know that Denso normally do aftermarket ones but I cannot find anything online about ones for our engines.
I don't want to buy the ones on Alibaba just simply cause I normally do not trust cheap Chinese "genuine" items.
Also is there anything to save the next ones from having the same thing happen? Seems that the heat is killing them but it isn't exactly a cold environment under the engine cover.

Any help will be much appreciated, I will also post up anything I find on these cause it seems to be a rare occurrence to find these at all.

Mine are 90919-02236 and i had to buy from Toyota. All the aftermarket "compatible" ones i tried fired the plug but the engine was very unhappy and check engine light stayed on. Had very rough idle and low power.

Which aftermarket ones did you try?
How much were the ones from Toyota? I've heard £70-75 each....

Tried a no name brand as well as one made by Huco (german company apparently).

I bought original Denso from Toyota South Africa, cost equivalent of about £60.

Looking for 4 of each, been told that it's a good idea to change them all like HT leads.
I am also afraid that with second hand, they will only just blow again.

So managed to get to Toyota this morning.

90919-02236 are £85.98 (ex VAT) each.
90919-02227 are £62.32 (ex VAT) each.

At that price, there must be some kind of alternative; can't imagine everybody being able to afford £400 on COPs alone

On the MR2 I imagine I can run any COPs I want as I run a standalone ECU on that.
But the Altezza needs the original or as similar as possible.

I read somewhere on the forum that someone successfully used COPs from a Caldina GT.
