car is running s***

Postby Podge » Sun Aug 26, 2012 8:02 pm

well lads i have had this problem over a couple of weeks.doesnt happen all the time.but when stopping at light or cross roads when i clutch it the car cuts out.
while accelerating in every gear once i get as far as 4000rpm car is just spitting and farting with the engine malfunction light flicking on and off,and some times stays on for a couple of seconds.
now i taught it was dirty petrol, so i tried different petrol station, still the same.i tried another maf sensor but still the same.
the only thing that seems to sorth it is diptane.when ever i put in the recommeded amount the car runs perfect for around 2 or 3 tanks of petrol.but its back square one after that.
i was thinking myself is it the lambda sensor?

hope someone can help me,because i cant enjoy driving it at the moment,(always waiting for it to die or light to come on).
thanks

Could well be. There's been a few failing of late. Ye old 10w-40 semi seems to be a recurring theme with these.

Ok lads I checked the vvti solenoid. Doesn't look dirty to me. It was shining with nice clean oil drippin off it.

Well, my car was at the same. changed coils, clean maf, plugs, checked compression, ended up changing the ECU and car is running sweet again. my car was parked for a few months unless that had something to do with it messing up, only a sugguestion though

Visual inspection doesn't always tell you if it's faulty. You need to test it with the appropriate equipment or look for a fault code as hp_zim did http://www.tezzaworld.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=10761

Might be worth gving the throttle body a good clean also as this caused a similar issue with my car some time ago. when you've done everything disconnect the ECU for a few minutes then reconnect and bring it for a nice long spin to get it nice n warm then drive it hard to burn off any other crap in the system.

Ok I eventually got the car plugged in. 2 faults showed up. Throttle body and O2 sensor. I cleaned throttle body and he cleared the 2 faults. So if it happens again I no what I need to get. Thanks lads
