We can take a few typical Irish shots on the way to Kilkenny on Sat: rain soaked bog, sheep with hypothermia, etc. etc. :)

Population of the entire west coast is just over 30,000 so yes its rather empty. Mind you there's only about 4.3 million in the whole country & over 1/4 of them live in Auckland.

I've got a Panasonic DMC-TZ3. It's about 2 years old now but not bad for a point & shoot. Would luv a DSLR. My old man has got a Nikon D80 & it's the bee's knee's

Hard to get pics with sunshine on that side of the island. Highest rainfall in the country

I am presuming thats the main thing you look for buying a camera & brands aswell. Off the topic but when I was buying a hoover I presumed the watt e.g. 1200, 1600 the bigger the better but I was proved wrong on the it got to do something else :?

Megapixels count up to a point. It's a quick and easy way of differentiating cheap "consumer" cameras. Quality of the shots vary widely for cameras with the same megapixel values however. This is where it gets much more difficult to decide which is the better camera. The one I'm currently using is 8 megapixel, but takes much better shots than some 10 megapixel ones I've seen.
If you want to find out what cameras are really like, read some comparitive reviews. I use cnet.com a lot for this.
