Best broadband package

Postby Evelyn » Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:38 pm

Since we moved into our new house we discoved we have access to broadband so whats the best package. I was on the phone to Eircom today & I did not understand 1 thing she said to me I was worse when I got off the phone to her....it advertised at €9 euro a month but its actually €49.99 a month!!
Then she said it was unlimited but the website says it limited to 10mb per month!! I really dont know what she was raving about.. What does eveyone else use?

thats including your phone line rental too. and you have only 10gb monthly download, which you wouldnt see going. If you can get NTL i would go for them.

If you have the TV with NTL already, might be worth getting all 3 services from them: tv, phone and broadband. I have theit Broadband Ultra package and its super fast @ 20mb download and 1.5mb upload and no download cap. its is 40 euro a month just for the broadband, but work pays for mine so i got the best one available in my area.

Have a look at their packages here:

Unfortunately for those living outside Dublin or any of the other big cities 20mb broadband is unheard of.

Around where I live you'd be lucky to get 1Mb broadband at peak times because the contention ratio is so high. I was looking at getting vodafone broadband, they were offering 3Mb for the same price as eircom's 1Mb but the vodafone contention ratio was 48:1

if you a worried about speed i would go for the best package you can afford, remember that the contention ratio for Eircom broadband packages is 48:1 so meaning your connection can be shared with up to 48 other people in your area so faster your "up to 7mb" etc.. speed is and the lower the contention ratio the better

My broadband is grand. Apparently it's guaranteed 1Mb at least. I've never been below 1Mb anyway. I've never had problems playing a few online games and that kind of thing. I don't go mad downloading big stuff or anything like that but for what I use it for it's perfect.

If you live in a big town then I'd go for the best package you can afford. I love in smallish town so there's not too many people using it at once.
