I found a bad earth in the passenger side footwell just above the fuse box and also bad earths on the earthing point on the passenger side inner wing next to the bulk head (next to the battery) both had high resistance and were slightly corroded..
Yesterday i looked at another altezza with a few dashboard guage issues and a problem with th horn not working propperly, this turned out to be a few corroded connections on the plugs in the fusebox in the passenger footwell.
The guy had an aftermarket power supply to an amp, the supply ran from the battery through a rubber boot in the bulkhead into the passenger footwell. The rubber boot wasnt fitted back propperly and water was dripping down the cables and into the footwell and the fusebox which corroded a few bits.
The front window was also misting up quite a bit when i drove the car so the water in the footwell was the cause of this aswell.

I believe its something to do with the bad earth. This only happens about 4 week after I swap my 1JZ vvti. But why about a while? I'm very curious.

ESXTEZZ: I've already checked the passanger footwell & the battery side. But still having the same issue.

Bringing this thread up again. Long story short ran out of petrol today as fuel gauge read i had half a tank. So after breakdown assistance figured it out it started again. When i turned it on it stayed at half a tank even though the 10 euro petrol would never come close to that. Then after driving for a minute the gauge just dropped to what 10 euro worth of petrol should read. So i went to the petrol station and filled the car up fully but it went straight back to just half a tank. I just did as was suggested and pulled out and disconnected the gauge and disconnected the battery and after that the gauge went up to 3/4 full, which is where i'm at now. I had a spare cluster in the garage so i threw that in and that also reads 3/4 of a tank so im assuming its nothing to do with the cluster. Hope someone can shed some light on this.

Thanks

Is the little float mechanism in the tank stuck? They are notorious for sticking, often if my car is in the red and green quick 50 into it the gauge will still say red but will eventually level out so could be that

I had this problem intermittently. I used to have to disconnect the battery to get it working properly again.

Then one day my battery completely died on me and I replaced it just over a year ago. I've not had a problem with the fuel gauge ever since.
Why complain when nobody listens?

does the altezza use the pressure in the tank to receive a reading like some car do when you undo the cap the fuel gauge goes down then has to re-pressurise to get a reading
if they do might be fuel cap leaking?

They don't, inside there is small floating plastic box attached to the pump by hard wire. And from there is does read on some kind of scale. A bit difficult to describe, had picture somewhere..

What do you mean when you say it is sticking. I changed the fuel filter myself over a year ago so I could take it off again

so quick question about this. emailed nick about parts for the two fuel senders that could be causing the problem.

Part numbers are 83320-51010 and 83320-59095. 130 nzd each. Is there anyone that has had this problem that can shed some light on it? is it worth opening the tank at the fuel filter and see if it 'fixes itself'??

Cheers

I'd be opening the tank on both sides and seeing the condition of the fuel floats.

It could be when you changed the filter it's getting in the way?

what do you mean on both sides? would there be an obvious issue with the float?
