Help with Damper adjustment knob

Postby i2ex » Mon Oct 29, 2012 4:47 pm

Hi guys, I've bought a 99 altezza last week, and I want to ask how to adjust the suspension damper knob. I'm not sure about the exact model of the suspension, but the previous owner told me is a TRD suspension set, which looks the same to me in this picture:

there is no height adjustment on it, but there's something like this at the top
Image
so i'm guessing the damper can be adjust ?
if so, does anyone know how to do it?, coz I've tried to use a flat head screw driver to turn the middle part, but it wont stop clicking in both clockwise and counter-clockwise, (i mean, it does turn and click on each label from 1 to 5, but it wont stop)
therefore, i need some advice on it, no idea if it's broken or not ><
Thankyou for attention.

Hi, got same suspension mine doesn't click, don't force it round as will only go 360 once so each section will adjust the suspension 1 being soft and 6 being hard, there should be a white mark on the one end of the slot (which is correct using a flat head) to show which one it is pointing to then just select the number you want and job done, may be broken though

Nice and simple test:

Turn it so that the white end of the slot points to #1.
Bounce the car.
Turn it so that the white end of the slot points to #6.
Bounce the car.

Is it damped any stiffer at #6? If not then that would suggest a problem.

Check the strut isn't turning in the housing when adjusting the knob

sorry, i don't get when you say,
do you mean, when i turn the knob, will the strut turn as well? :?:

or should i try to turn that hex screw below? is that hex nut locking the spring?, if so , i better not touch that hex nut below the knob :?

gone then if it does, not sure if they can be repaired, I know they arn't servicable, may be able to use some adjuster off some other struts?? depends what the condition of the dampers/springs are

the collar is moving so that says to me there is a problem, the click is too loud to be the adjuster, not come across them to click that loud, but when it clicks the collar moves with it suggesting a problem, maybe someone forced it not realising they only move from 1-6 around thinking it was 12point adjustment insteat of 6 point, do all of them do it or just the one?
