Annoying noise

Postby Tezzy » Mon Aug 20, 2007 11:48 pm

When i'm going around bends i can hear a light metallic scraping noise which i was 100% sure was the brake disks rubbing slightly off the pads but even as i brake i can still hear it so now i presume its something else.

It does seem to be coming from around the front wheel though and can be heard on the move at any speed.

Its gotten worse recently to the point that even if the steering is turned 1/4 of a round i can hear it. i had a look around underneath and couldnt see anything amiss.

Anybody experience anything similar or have any ideas? :?

If it happens even when you are stationary it might be the clutch disc thats getting worn

i checked the backplates (stoneguard things mounted behind the disks?) and they seemed to be well away from the disks themselves so dont think its that.

I can only hear it when the car is moving. the clutch wouldnt be making that noise when its fully engaged would it? i did try slipping the clutchdriving along as i heard the noise but it didnt make any difference.

The disks arent warped either there isnt a hint of judder even under heavy breaking.

Cheers for the feedback lads

silly question but did you try the brake pads all round? and dont just check the outside pads, as toyotas seem to wear on the insde quicker than the outside!

Not a small road stone stuck in a caliper or around the disc/backplate??

I've had that a few times.
