Insurance Companies!

Postby TuLegit2quitzz » Wed Jul 31, 2013 6:03 pm

Hey. I am wondering who are the best insurance companies to go to for insurance on Altezza's and other imports! I am 20(almost 21) with a full license for 1 year and 2 years no claims and i have been with my insurance company (Asgard) for 2 years but my insurance has been out for a month as im getting my car sprayed and i didnt renew and now they are telling me they dont insure ''new'' customers.I was quotes 1900 at the end of June if i renewed but i didnt as i was not going to be driving so they were going to re insure me but not now as i am a ''new'' customer. I am going to speak to the manager tomorrow ans explain why i couldnt renew and what not and see if i can get re insure but if all fails i am wondering:

1: What are the names of some insurance companies that might quote me?

2: Are there any certain companies that deal in imported cars and insurance.

3: Is ''third party extension'' insurance an option. As in is it legal and can i get away with it.

Any idea what so ever would be great as i need to find some sort of insurance somewhere.Dont want to change cars and theres no way im selling my tezz!

Cheers lads!

At that age and little no claims getting new policy will be difficult .best thing to do is insure something standard for few weeks then swap it over to altezza.

Never thought about that. Iv done that b4 alright switching from a 1.3 to a 1.6 and then to an altezza and never really seemed to have a problem. Do you think they will do it tho lets say i bought a cheap diesel or something and kinsured it for a month or 2 and then rang up to switch to an altezza?

Sound man thanks for that :) alot of stress gone now :P Is it some kind of policy they have that they have to keep insuring you if your a customer and you switch to a higher liter car? They will raise your insurance of course but it seems almost to easy yano. I know its worked for me before switching from a levin to the altezza!

fairly sure they legally have to cover you .but iv never had to argue just simple swap over usually went up few hundred but that was it .

"third party extension" means you can drive another car with third party cover once that car has its own policy. i think what you are after is "driving of other car extension" which is different . the other car you want to drive doesnt have to have its own policy.

not all insurance companies will switch over from a standard car to an altezza they can say no and i know of 2 lads that had to sell their altezzas as the insurance company wouldnt change over the policy.

your best bet is to ring up a few brokers and get their expert opinion.

I know in uk the third party extension is automatically applied when over 25 but you can not have it under that age

I found all the specialist import insurance companies are way more expensive that the regular ones for some reason was getting quotes over 1k + on the specialist sites

I don't think buying a car and then swapping the insurance over will work, you would possibly have to wait 6 months as insurance companies are on to that sort of thing and can refuse to swap cover especially when you have a 1 litre and then got to a 2, also a lot of companies won't insure some imports, I know because I've had problems before swapping over cars while still on a policy and that was going from a 2 litre import to a 2.3 litre uk car and they wouldn't swap it over, so had to cancel insurance and get new policy out

Ya that's the only thing I'm afraid of if they won't switch it over.I explained the whole thing to a alad from a different insurance company who I had no intention to get insurance with and he told me that if I go back with my old insurer and request to switch my cover to an altezza that they by legal Irish law have to cover you and told me I didn't hear it from him tho.so I kind of believe orbit still don't trust it 100%.I'm gonna ring around tomorrow though and try sweet talk some insurers as well as I can and try haggle them into insuring me.don't know if that will work but hopefully it does.might speak to some supervisors if nessessary.if all fails il do the switch cover thing.worked before.

Also I know when I tried to get a quick quote from company my reg came up as an English import.now I know they are a jap import but iv hears something about The 1999 abs onwards altezzas were brought to England and then imported elsewhere so is there anyway I can say that my car is an English import and not a Japanese import.just a thought.might be easier to insure then.

never heard of that, only thing depends what your number plate was off as could be that, if I put my reg in comes up with an mr2 or a 2010 altezza

depends if the car is under there do not insure list then they legally wouldn't have to cover you or if certain cars of insurance group require a certain age driver then same again, if you still got your policy have a look through and read the fine print to see if there are any exclusions

Will do mate. I know when I was talking to my broker they quoted me 1900 for renewal but I waited to long and then they told me they won't insure "New" customers on that car which is why the guy from the other insurance company.told me to insure a different car and then switch to the altezza and they have to cover you he said.which is what I did before from a Levin to a BMW and then a.BMW to the altezza.he said that's why it worked last time.

Ah right fair enough hope you get it sorted out though, but can't see why you would be a new customer as you have been insured with them before

Rang every insurance company possible.was told ya need to be over 30 years old with 5+ years no claims and and others just told me no they don't insure jap cars. So rang my old insurance company and asked to speak to the manager.ended up speaking to someone who talked to the manager for me or something like that and got a quote of 1400 euro on the altezza.20 years old with full license for 1 year and 2 years no claims. :) 800 euro cheaper than last year :) couldn't be happier. And it should drop a bit more in October when I turn 21 :) sweet talking and being as polite as humanily possible really paid off :)
