NCT now failing HIDs

Postby Rob » Tue Feb 04, 2014 2:54 pm

Great news, as of 1st of Feb, they are now failing HID conversions in the NCT.

Which isn't too much of a problem if you have stock headlamps and can swap in your old bulbs.

However the headlamps that came in mine from Japan have proper H2 hid sockets, they don't take standard HB4 bulbs. They're not self-levelling and do not have wipers/spray so they will still fail the test.

Does anyone know if it's possible to convert a H2 holder to take the standard HB4 bulbs? Or am I facing having to replace both headlamps?

I did a bit of research, you can get HB4 adaptors to H2, but not the other way around.
I found a pair of second hand stock headlamps that I've ordered. I have a pain in the a** with these headlamps now. Ironically if I go back to stock, I can swap in and out HIDs much easier than these which are made specifically for HIDs (H2 is the "native" HID socket type). I currently have to remove the whole unit to swap them around.
It means going back to the yellow indicator lens which is slightly less cool than the full sliver look of these ones, but I don't care at this stage!

sure there is a way to make a connector for easy swapping of bulbs save removing headlight which is a pain in the arse

Here in Holland you can still fit the square ones but only if the long one don't fit on the bootlid

My car went through the NCT the other day with square plates and they passed no problem.
Why complain when nobody listens?
