Refurbed my headlamps

Postby AgtX » Sun Apr 21, 2013 12:29 pm

Used a 3M kit, pleased with the result, still got some polish left if they ever need a buff.

Nice job man, done the trick. Was the polish expensive?

Its a kit, you get all the discs & the polishing pad & polish, £17 I think it was. Only took about 15mins a headlamp.

you need to put some uv protector on them now to stop them going back, cheap easy fix for that price looks loads better

I though they only go yellow because of the harsh sunlight in Japan, we don't have much to worry about here. I checked the FAQs before I bought the kit

"Does 3M offer a UV coating with the kit?
No, we have found coatings can have several limitations and negative effects on the headlight
lenses. In many cases the coating does not bond well to the lens and begins peeling or chipping
off after a only few months. The coatings can haze the lens or mask the final clarity of the lens.
Many of the coating will actually degrade under UV faster than the polycarbonate lens material
itself."

it's only like a polish but with uv protection so can see why it would make them worse, only like sun screen.
they will fade again and a lot quicker than when they did originally, you've taken off the protection by flatting the lights
and polishing them up so there is nothing to stop them going milky again
