terrible smell

Postby richiek » Thu Oct 14, 2010 6:01 pm

bought e new car just over a week ago
theres a very bad smell inside it.its not an oily or petrol smell or burning or anything.
to be honest i duno what it smells like.it smells like ass or fat person smell or stale.
first i tought somebody got sick in it and it was just never cleaned properly.there is a small stain on the backseat but nutin major.

i didnt notice when i went to view the car,he must have had it well masked with airfreshners.
could be dampness but there doesnt seem to be any leaks or anything, even ckecked under the spare wheel.

i dnt thnik the car was left parked up cos its done 30k km since the last nct bout a 15months ago.

its not overpowering but sometimes when i get in its v noticeable other times its not.

ive hoovered it,scrubbed the seats and carpets, febreezed it.odour remover and air freshners the whole lot and i just cant figure it out or narrow down where its coming from.its wreckin my head.

i know its kind of a silly question but anybody know of anything that might help?

before i crack up

Maybe get an anti-bacterial spray and spray it into the air intake for the cabin? or simply and politely ask the fat person to get out!

something like that but try and get 1 that doesn't have a seriously strong smell, you don't want the car stinking of dettol. I'm nearly sure the air intake is under the black plastic at the bottom of the wipers. Best bet is to turn the fan on full power then feel/ listen around in the wiper area, you should feel the air being sucked in. The pollen filter ain't a bad idea either, you need to remove the glovebox to get at it but it's very simple to do

If you have the car manual there's a guide in there to replacing the pollen filter

There's 2 plastic sliding pins at the bottom of the glove box, remove them, they just pull out, and the box will just fall out. The filter is in there in a plastic holder as far as i remember

Give your radiator a good power hosing too, i had an unfortunate incident with a cat constantly p*@sing on it and it was getting inside the cabin anytime i had the heat on

O rite, no idea where the filter is on them, it's gonna be in either passenger or drivers side footwell so a bit of investigating should do it :)
