Re: A JDM Daily driver.

I went down exactly same path for exactly same reasons. 3 years later Altezza is not a friendly daily anymore and it is for sale. Wife has Nissan March for daily beating and I ordered an RX7 for myself. :) Compromises rarely work. My wife rolls a Subaru legacy GTB. with all replaced parts from HKS,...

Re: A JDM Daily driver.

honestly? because the Altezza was cheap. and i have recently become a father. so my R33gtst 2 door got sacrificed as a trade-in to a dealer. the benefit? my Altezza was only $2,400. with new tires, a service, timing belt, and a 6 month warrranty. apart from the previous owners neglect, it is a sound c...

Re: A JDM Daily driver.

Nice man! Get a hammer and make those wheels fit. Should tuck in with zero issues  Thanks for the encouragement. your car is super nice. it really sets a benchmark for others. awesome job. i really hope it works out to be minimal in the bodywork department. with as little "Tuck" as ...

Re: A JDM Daily driver.

yeah, i wasn't worried about customing the flanges etc, just getting it working as a Turbo, then going from there. but it's all good. the mix 'n match way seems to be the way to go. as i can hand pick every part. i will look for more stuff today. the good news is, i have a shot at a job in a breaker...

Re: A JDM Daily driver.

got some workshop time with my car today. 1520625_365596486957101_2356850523093460976_n.jpg and had a try at seeing how the new wheels fit. 10931145_365596616957088_6333946286710746695_n.jpg "Houston, we have fitment issues" - it looks super high because it was on an air jack, and i ...

Re: A JDM Daily driver.

that's some great advice, i only planned on the kit for the manifold, and the E-manage. but you are right. :P a collection of bits can be put together. i have an intercooler (Mitsubishi RVR) but will prolly get a better one. my guy can make a manifold.( i will do a post on him later). there is a old...

Re: A JDM Daily driver.

yeah, i understand it's an overly large turbo. with potential for big power. and you are spot on with your assessment. so the steps are, 1, turbo with a Greddy kit. and get it all working as a turbo car. 2,support upgrades, like a Power FC or hks F-con. injectors, oil cooler, etc 3,throw $3000 at the ...

Re: commen causes for blue smoke ??

I had the same problem in a Twin Cam Corolla. it would blow puffs on gear changes. it was the valve stem seals. a thicker oil might buy you some time. but it's a cheaper fix than some problems.

Re: Engine Knocking/Rattle! :(

yeah, i'm pretty sure crank bearings would sound bad all the time. and the crank would shudder. if you've isolated it to cyl 1? and it sounds like top end? i would say valve train.- going against what my guru says. the thing is, valve train components need to be changed as a set. and you might as we...

Re: A JDM Daily driver.

:D Thanks all. i have been looking at JUN parts catalogs for cams, cam gears, and valvesprings. as a member said my boost would drop at higher RPM's but i will seek advice before spending... so, when i first met my Engine guy. we got to talking and i was shopping for a turbo. there was a R34gtt maki...

Re: Engine Knocking/Rattle! :(

my own thoughts?? the crankshaft will still be spinning. the piston still moving. the only thing that is affected by a "Bang" in the cylinder? but makes less noise when not firing? busted valvesprings. you might have one. or two. loose valves slapping about could be from a spring breaking ...

Re: A JDM Daily driver.

Thanks guys, :D although I want to keep this about the car. i think it would be fun to share with you all the daily doings of building a daily driver the way we do it here in Japan. so you can look forward to seeing greasy worshops, recycled parts shops, pics from Autobacs, and other places. plus pi...

Re: Engine Knocking/Rattle! :(

Glad to help any time. Tosh21 has been great too, he seems to really know 3s-ge's. looking forward to learning what is wrong with your engine, and how to fix it. :D
