Non return valve is fitted to some engines to stop the oil draining back down into the sump after you switch it off. I remember I forgot to refit a component once, and the valves were tapping pretty much every start up. this sounds like it might be the case. Where would I find this valve? Near the ...

No one going to suggest that the oil pump might be dying? Seems like it takes a while to build up oil pressure. The oil pressure switch will have nothing to do with it since its function is just to show pressure. If the valves are rattling, then it means you ACTUALLY have low oil pressure (oil pump...

Ok thanks for that. I will check it out when I do the oil change. (Just waiting on a filter to turn up.) Do you know how it works I.e. is it a physical switch that I can clean and refit or would I just be better off getting a new part?

Ok. So I have read somewhere about an oil pressuer switch. But I have not heard of these before? Can someone tell me what this is and where it is fitted? yes it sounds like there is no oil flowing around the engine. And I tried swithing off and starting again a few times but it still does it then suddenly its ok again??
