Re: 3sge turbo rod failure

Bad tune, bad fuel, boost spike.

Detention/knock is your most likely culprit, and the rods being relatively thin from factory don't withstand very well and bend.

Oil wouldn't cause it, more likely to cause run bearings.

Motul 5w30 is a great choice of oil.

Re: Touring Car BodyKit... Any info would help...

Google 'clinched' and altezza and have a look at their stuff. It seems to look good and readily available. (I personally have nothing to do with them apart from wanting to buy some of their stuff and lacking the funds)

Re: clutch fitment

So you can order. OEM or heavy duty to suit dual mass and OEM or heavy duty to single mass.

Re: clutch fitment

Exedy do clutches that fit dual mass or single mass if you didn't specify single mass when you ordered it, it won't fit.

Re: Turbo Oil Feed

There is a bung on the front passenger side of the sump that you can remove and use a banjo fitting to feed your turbo.

And yes just tee in to the factory return.

Re: vvti cams other than toda?

Kelford cams here in NZ do some and can do custom sizes. Talk to Nick (xNickx) the site trader about this as this is what he uses.

Put a restrictor somewhere in the exhaust to test it.

Re: Turbo Altezza Overboosting

Try having a search for the powerfc and engine tuning off/stalling while driving. It's a common fault with this car and that ecu, I don't know the solution. With over boosting it will be something physical rather than electrical as you're just running from the wastegate with no electronic boost cont...

Re: Low oil pressure problem

It's fine, oil gets thinner as it gets hotter. As long as while you're driving the pressure comes back up.

Re: Turbo Altezza cutting out when warm

Sounds very much like a common fault with the powerfc, search here and altezzaclub.org.nz, has happened to many turbo Altezzas with the same ecu. I've had it for many years it comes and goes, can be months or a year without doing it then have a few days of doing it every few kilometers. Have sent it...

Re: Buying an altezza, what to look for?

Noises from the front suspension, lower ball joints are a common fault. Miss-fire while revving, indicates coil packs are poked or on their way out. Noises from the diff, or power steering pump usually signs that it has had a hard life doing O's. Other than that, just go for one with a factory airbo...

PowerFC, Toda cams (as mentioned in the other thread) and Toda valve springs.

Copy away :)

If you're going for decent boost levels, ARP head studs and heavier valve springs are good to have.

Re: gearbox weakest link

I released the clutch too early so the gear was half in changing from 1st to 2nd and stripped the teeth off the gear. Syncros were still fine. S15 boxes are the same strength most Silvia guys chasing power swap for the S14 5 speed. So that could always be another option, but then you'd have to get c...
